You know how it goes. Best of intentions, and all that. But really now, we're good to go. So here's the deal: if you're good at writing, a generally liberty-minded person, love to rant, or want to review games, energy drinks, and other such things made of win, let me know. Throw an email my way.

So, I've been using Windows since version 1. Not inclusively, mind you, but I've had my grubby paws on just about every version of Windows to date. Having said that, the second OS I started using was Linux. I knew of it but I'd never used it. I got my father to buy me my first copy of Red Hat Linux version 6 from Wal-Mart one day. Ah, that cute little penguin with his red hat. From that day I began hacking into Linux, although on a minor scale. Since then I've used Windows and Linux back and forth. I prefer Linux, but most of the time it breaks at the same time some hot new MMORPG goes into beta, so I revert to Windows. Then I have to wipe a hard drive and gods know I have to leave a Linux partition every time! Well, three days ago I got a new laptop. A used PowerBook G4 12" 1.5GHz. Oh boy do I love this little bugger. It has incredible battery life, it's rock solid, and it's just small enough to go with me to work or wherever I go, and sports the latest and greatest Mac OS X Leopard (that is, 10.5.8). Having used Mac for a couple days, I find myself in a weird position. Being the hardcore themer and customizer I am I always hated how difficult it was to get things looking and acting just the way I wanted, despite things like learning how to write Litestep themes and trying to get Gnome running in Cygwin. Lately I've used Ubuntu 9.10 with a very custom Gnome. I love the way things work. Gnome DO, Docky, Prism... It's perfect. And on my 16" HP screen it looks like magic. So admittedly I found myself thinking that maybe there's more. Maybe there are goodies untold. With as many options as there are for Docky, or Avant Windows Navigator, or RocketDock, how many magical and wonderous options might there be for OS X's dock? Oh, and my fantasy theme Somatic by David Lanham through ShapeShifter. Ah, what a wonderful thing it would be to have OS X. Finally I got my chance. My own Mac. So now, three days later I've installed every program I can think of, modded every bit of Mac's GUI I can, and I have to say, I'm disappointed. I find myself wondering if I can possibly run Gnome on a PowerPC. The dock is hardly customizable at all, themeing is nearly a moot point, and serious icon theming requires a paid app. Wow. The main reason I have a Mac is to learn iPhone development, but being the tiny little runner it is I tend to carry it everywhere. So while I can live with it, I'm really suprised. I find Linux to be the better system, Gnome to be the superior GUI. I'll be using my HP for most things, and my PowerBook for mail, IM, and things like that, but Mac has a hell of a lot of work to do to really compare. In the end, I guess Linux wins this battle.
